British Values
At Seymour, we recognise the importance of educating our children about the wealth of diversity in Britain and our school.
We celebrate cultural/ethnic diversity through lessons, whole school events and assemblies. We promote British Values throughout our curriculum and extra curricular activities/experiences, as these values teach tolerance and respect for the differences in our community and wider world.
British Values are reinforced regularly and in the following ways:
At Seymour we pride ourselves on our school’s diversity and believe it is vital to teach our children to respect everyone and celebrate the different beliefs, cultures and traditions people may have. Our curriculum encourages children to be curious about the world around them and to ask questions about different religions and cultures. Everyone at Seymour treats each other with respect as it is embedded through our school value of compassion. ‘We treat people how we want to be treated.’
Pupils learn about the differnt cultures represented within the school community. They discuss and debate important issues in the wider world. These help them to develop informed views and to value diversity.

British Values are a thread throughout our whole-school PSHE curriculum. Children learn directly about these values throughout different learning units. The document below outlines how British Values are integrated into our whole school PSHE curriculum
At Seymour, we place great importance on teaching children the British values of respect and tolerance. Pupils learn to appreciate and celebrate differences, understanding that everyone’s beliefs, backgrounds, and opinions are valued. Through a range of activities including classroom discussions, cultural events, and collaborative projects. Children develop empathy and learn to treat others with kindness and consideration. Our inclusive school environment encourages respectful behaviour in every interaction, helping children grow into thoughtful, compassionate citizens.
At Seymour, democracy begins on the very first day of school. Every child has a voice, and we value their ideas and opinions on how to make our school the best it can be. Our School Council meets regularly to share the views of their classmates and help make important decisions about the day-to-day life of our school.
At Seymour, children begin learning about the importance of law from Nursery onwards. They understand that laws help govern and protect us, a principle reinforced through our behaviour policy. Pupils are taught not only the value and purpose of laws, but also the responsibilities they carry and the consequences when rules are broken, both within the school and in the wider community.
At our school, we provide children with the education and boundaries they need to make safe and informed choices. In a supportive environment, pupils are encouraged to understand and exercise their rights and personal freedoms responsibly. Lessons in E-Safety and PSHE help guide them in making these choices safely. From selecting their level of challenge, deciding how to record their learning, or taking part in extra-curricular clubs and opportunities, children are given the freedom to explore, make decisions, and take ownership of their learning.
