Design & Technology
Intent
At Seymour Primary School, our Design and Technology curriculum is designed to engage learners to develop a range of skills, including creativity, problem-solving, critical thinking, compassion, and courage. Our DT provision fosters a love for learning and provides meaningful experiences for our pupils. By the time the children leave Year 6, they will have experienced a range of DT areas and built upon skills from previous years. Our curriculum ensures that children leave us with the understanding of the connection between design and technology and the wider world, including environmental and sustainability considerations.
How is this subject taught
Three units of DT are covered across a year; these include mechanisms and structure, textiles and food technology. Each unit follows an enquiry based approach where children are encouraged to plan, explore and create using a range of equipment and resources. They actively engage in DT lessons, demonstrating enthusiasm, enjoyment, and curiosity.
