History
Intent
At Seymour Primary School our History curriculum is designed for children to understand their place in the world. Our clear concept focuses will ensure that children build on knowledge over time, gaining a deep and meaningful understanding of British, world and local history.
At Seymour we aim to inspire children’s curiosity about the past, developing the courage to question different perspectives and think critically. We aim for all children to leave Seymour Primary School thinking, writing and questioning like a historian. Chronology is at the heart of our curriculum coverage, ensuring that our children can place significant eras, people and events in order.
How is this subject taught
We make clear and tangible links to the national curriculum to meet the needs of our school. Within this we follow an enquiry based model, where each lesson is an enquiry question, to encourage children to think critically about historical concepts. From EYFS to Year 6 children are able to develop an understanding of continuity and change, cause and consequences, similarities, differences and significance.
