Early Year Foundation Stage
At Seymour Primary School, we have a nursery class and three reception classes in our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) as well as a large, interactive outdoor area that can be accessed by all.
We strongly believe that the EYFS is a fundamental part of a child’s education journey and we need to build strong foundations for learning, so our children achieve success in academic subjects as well as personal development. We aim to embrace our children’s learning through our core values of courage, curiosity and compassion; setting them up for their school journey at Seymour and inspiring them to become active citizens and happy, curious life-long learners.
Our curriculum promotes learning through play alongside structured adult led activities, which follows the EYFS Statutory curriculum. It involves six termly themes that allows for flexibility to tailor the curriculum to reflect the current needs and interests of the children and to ensure all children are engaged, supported and making good progress.
Our planning and EYFS environment allows us to follow the children’s interests, whilst ensuring that children develop the skills and knowledge set out in the curriculum. The children have access to all areas of the EYFS curriculum during free flow times where they can explore, practice and refine their skills.
The EYFS curriculum is based on the following areas:
3 Prime areas
- Communication and Language
- Physical Development
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
4 Specific areas
- Literacy
- Maths
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts and Design
