Intent

At Seymour Primary school our Science curriculum is designed for children to grow and relate to Science in and outside of the classroom. Our clear progression of skills in Science allows for children to engage in practical enquiry questions to answer questions, record and present evidence and make careful observations. At Seymour we want our children to develop scientific knowledge and understanding, answer scientific questions about the world around them and understand the uses and implications of science today and in the future.

How is this subject taught

We make links to the national curriculum to meet the needs of the children in our school. From Years 1 to  6, we teach 10 big ideas; There is a relationship between structure and function; Living and non living things can be grouped in a variety of ways; Humans move through different stages of growth and development; all matters on earth exist in one of three states; solid, liquid and gas and the state of matter can change; Living things have characteristics and requirement for life, growth and health; changing the movement of an object requires a net force;living things depend on each other and the environment; humans can both a positive and negative impact on the environment; there is a diversity of organisms, living and extinct; energy makes things happen and can be seen by its effects and the movement of the earth, affects the seasons and times of day.
